Empowering Citizenship Candidates: Margie Bowlingβs Digital Learning Solution
Feb 14, 2025
Introducing Margie Bowling, a student at IDOL Academy who recently completed a project that will have a positive impact on the lives of many. Margie's digital learning course was designed to supplement the traditional instructor-led course provided by CCMM for citizenship candidates. The goal of the project was to provide an interactive and visual way for candidates to recall the 100 U.S. civics and history questions and answers needed to pass the USCIS interview and exam.
The Problem:
Chester County Migrant Ministry (CCMM) has been providing a traditional instructor-led course for citizenship candidates, but they wanted to enhance it with a digital training solution. This would not only provide the trainer with a more structured and interactive way to present the content, but also give candidates the opportunity for self-paced practice outside of the classroom. This would ultimately alleviate the trainer from having to spend too much time on this particular aspect of the course and allow them to focus on other important tasks.
The Solution:
Margie used her skills in Articulate Storyline and Canva to design an interactive eLearning course that takes candidates on a tour through the U.S. National Mall. The course consists of 13 landmarks or modules, each containing voiceover for English language learners and formative assessments. In addition, candidates can download and print PDFs from the USCIS website to serve as a "tour guide" for additional practice. The course concludes with a 100-question summative assessment, which candidates are expected to complete with at least an 80% score.
The Process:
Margie's project was not an easy feat, but she was determined to make it a success. She spent countless hours researching and designing the course, making sure to include all the necessary elements to help candidates effectively recall the USCIS questions and answers. She also consulted with the stakeholders at CCMM to ensure that the course met their needs and expectations.
The Impact:
Although the project is not set to be implemented until mid 2025, the stakeholders at CCMM are already excited about the potential impact it will have. The course will be piloted in a 1:1 setting before being implemented in the entire class, giving Margie the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments. The hope is that this course will not only alleviate the trainer's workload, but also provide consistent and structured training for all candidates. Margie's ultimate goal is to help many local citizenship candidates successfully obtain U.S. citizenship status through this course.
Margie's achievements are truly commendable and a testament to her dedication and hard work. Her project showcases her skills as a student of IDOL Academy and her passion for helping others. We applaud Margie for her efforts and look forward to seeing the impact of her project in the years to come.
